Deadpool 2 (2018) Movie Review

Deadpool 2 was released on May 18, 2018 and directed by David Leitch. The sequel to Deadpool brings on many new characters and offers a different type of story. There is still a mix of comedy and action just like the first one.

At the beginning of the movie we see Wade and Vanessa living very happy together, but then people break into the apartment and she ends up dying. This then leads to Wade trying to kill himself, but he just can’t die. He then meets a young kid named Russell (or Firefist) and they end up going to jail together. Cable, who is a new villain, enters the prison to kill Russell because in the future he kills his wife and daughter. This movie definitely has a different take than the first one as it introduces time travel. Deadpool then assembles a team named X-Force to try and save the day. After this there are a lot of action sequences that I won’t spoil, and I very much enjoyed the story.

The cast in this movie was great again just like the first movie. Ryan Reynolds yet again delivers an amazing performance as Deadpool. Josh Brolin really did a great job as Cable. I didn’t really know what to expect of his performance, but I really enjoyed seeing his character. Zazie Beetz also played a new character (Domino), I really liked her character and her superpower of luck. I thought that they gave her a lot of good and funny moments and she played her part well. All of the other actors and actresses did a great job too. Mostly everyone at least had one funny line and they had many serious moments as well.

Many people think that this movie is a lot worse than the first one, however I really don’t see why they think that. I liked the first one more, but I don’t think this one is that far behind. I didn’t really have many problems with this one besides it is a little boring in the middle of the movie. Otherwise, every other part is action packed or insanely funny. Many people also have a problem with the fact that they gave Deadpool a love interest. I don’t really see a problem with that considering they managed to make a whole movie surrounding him losing his girlfriend. Deadpool 2 really is a good movie, and it’s really not much worse than the first one.

In the end, Deadpool 2 is a film that I watch a lot. Sometimes I feel like I even watch it more than the first one. I enjoyed all of the action sequences and the moments with Deadpool and Cable fighting together. Some of my favorite moments are when Deadpool breaks the fourth wall like when he says, “that’s lazy writing”. I give Deadpool 2 an 8.5 out of 10 on the scale of awesomeness as it isn’t much worse than Deadpool, however it does take just a slight step back.
