Wow… this beekeeper certainly has some anger management issues to work out. To “bee” honest though, this film rocks. “The Beekeeper” follows Jason Statham’s Adam Clay as he goes on a revenge-fueled rampage against a group of people who wronged someone he cared about.

“The Beekeeper” fully embraces what it is from the jump: a ridiculous and action-heavy ride that doesn’t pretend to be anything deeper. It leans into its hilarity just enough, while still keeping a straight face. That balance works in its favor.

The action here is a lot of fun. There’s a mix of hand-to-hand combat, explosions and some slick camerawork that keeps everything feeling fluid. It doesn’t always push its R-rating as far as it could, but when it does, it works. There’s a 1v1 fight in the final act that easily stands out as the highlight. That said… you definitely need to suspend some disbelief. “The Beekeeper” is basically “John Wick”-level ridiculous when it comes to how many people this guy can take out without so much as slowing down. If you can buy into that, you’re going to have a great time. If not, it might lose you pretty quickly.

One of the more underrated aspects is its sense of humor. The silly bee-related jokes are sprinkled throughout, giving the film a little personality to help separate it from feeling like just another generic action thriller.

Statham, in particular, is great here. He’s always had a knack for delivering cheesy one-liners with a completely straight face, and this might be one of the better showcases of that. There’s something about the way he drops a line right after knocking someone out that just lands every time.

“The Beekeeper” absolutely buzzes by. The performances are solid across the board and the comedy hits more often than not. Even though the story gets a bit convoluted, it’s carried by nonstop, fast-paced action. This feels like a future guilty pleasure — a movie that’s easy to throw on and enjoy again and again.
