“Here for Blood” follows a wrestler who agrees to fill in as a last-minute replacement for his girlfriend’s babysitting job. What starts as a quiet night quickly turns to chaos as a cult of masked intruders enter the home.
At the center of a talented cast is Shawn Roberts as Tom, who delivers a performance that’s both intense and funny. He walks that line really well, creating a character that feels just as capable of handling the violence as he is reacting to it.
Joelle Farrow as Phoebe and Maya Misaljevic as Grace are phenomenal as well. The film does a terrific job of building chemistry between the three, which ends up being crucial. When things inevitably go off the rails, you actually care about what happens to them. That emotional investment goes a long way in elevating what could have been a much more standard experience.
Horror comedies can sometimes go a little too far, leaning so heavily into absurdity that they lose any real balance. “Here for Blood” definitely has its over-the-top moments — but for the most part, it finds a sweet spot. The humor and horror complement each other instead of competing.
The kills are a big highlight. There’s a ton of blood here, and the practical effects, while occasionally cheap and cheesy, actually work in the film’s favor. It adds to the comedic flair rather than taking away from it. If anything, that slightly rough-around-the-edges feel makes everything more fun. This is the kind of movie that knows exactly what it’s offering, and fully commits to it.
What really surprised me is how much “Here for Blood” has going on beneath the surface. This easily could have been a by-the-numbers horror comedy, but the second half introduces some genuinely creative ideas. The story takes a few unexpected turns, and there’s even a twist that I didn’t immediately see coming. Not every swing fully connects, but enough of them do to keep things interesting.
What holds it back is the final 10–15 minutes. Up until that point, the cinematography and editing are consistently strong, but the ending feels a bit rushed and slightly lazy in comparison. It’s also a little underwhelming given how much momentum the film had built.
“Here for Blood” is a hilarious, well-acted and very bloody ride. It’s an easy watch, with a 101-minute runtime that flies by. Even with a slightly weaker ending, it far exceeds expectations and stands out as one of the more entertaining horror comedies in recent memory.
