Rushed ending dims the impact

For most of its 93-minute runtime, “Last Breath” presents a steady current of tension. The underwater cinematography is immersive, and the sound design heightens every moment. The claustrophobia, stakes and emotional weight behind each decision are felt from beginning-to-end.

However, the final act falters. The last 15 minutes move at a noticeably faster pace, rushing through the emotional beats that deserved more room to breathe. There is a missed opportunity to reflect on the psychological aftermath of the event with all of the involved characters.

This misstep doesn’t leave “Last Breath” at the bottom of the sea, but it does undercut its effect. The humanity that was so present in the early stages of the flick feel distant by the time it reaches its conclusion.

“Last Breath” delivers a gripping, nerve-wracking descent into deep-sea rescue. Though its final stretch feels rushed, the film’s strong characters, immersive visuals and relentless tension make it a memorable survival thriller.
