Friendship” follows a man who tries to befriend his charismatic new neighbor, but it soon threatens to ruin both of their lives.

Standout Performances Lead the Way

Both Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd excel in the lead roles here. I’ve never been a Robinson fan before this, but he absolutely nails it in “Friendship.” His off-kilter, awkward performance is perfect.

Robinson doesn’t stop there, however, as there are layers to his character that are impactful on an emotional level as well. While Rudd doesn’t have as much screen time, he is as charming as always. Kate Mara and Jack Dylan Grazer are both great as well.

Comedy That Lands

“Friendship” is hilarious. This is the most I’ve laughed in a movie theatre all year, and I’m confident that the rest of the audience felt similarly. With a non stop barrage of jokes, there are many that don’t land, but… the majority do. This is a major success on a comedic front, with the cinematography, editing and performances all playing a part.

The editing in “Friendship” is old-school. Utilizing basic fades and irish-out transitions, this style is a part of the movie’s identity.

A Strange but Meaningful Experience

“Friendship” undoubtedly has shortcomings on a story level. The film has a 100-minute runtime, but it felt longer at times. It often meanders through various subplots and side quests, which hinders its pacing. This is almost the point of the movie, however, as it’s more of a laugh-filled experience than a coherent storyline.

Despite the messy plot, “Friendship” somehow manages to come together in a bizarrely meaningful way. It is extremely challenging to make new friends as an adult male. This film navigates those complexities alongside themes of obsession and identity.

It also dives into the nature of friendships in general. Every friendship is different. Some are your best pals, while others can simply be a small connection of trust that you share. The film highlights the importance of these different types of friendships.

“Friendship” is a strange experience. With over-the-top performances, nostalgic editing and a hilarious script, it’s one of the most memorable movies of 2025. You don’t have to think too much. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. You’ll most likely have a good time.
